Frequently Asked Window Questions

View our KTP & Argon Laser Safety FAQ for information related to 420–532nm lasers.

This acrylic laser safety window provides OD 5+ protection from 190 to 532 nm and 10,000 to 11,000 nm, offering coverage across both ultraviolet and visible green laser wavelengths as well as far-infrared (CO₂) laser systems.

It is suitable for use with KTP (frequency-doubled Nd:YAG) and CO₂ lasers, making it a flexible option for mixed-wavelength containment applications where 532 nm is a primary hazard.

This window shares the same optical density specifications and spectral performance as our 410 and 412 acrylic sheets, which differ only in thickness. Both the 410 and 412 options are appropriate for the same laser applications and selection depends on mechanical or mounting requirements - they have the same OD specifications.

Note: Laser safety windows are designed for use in enclosed environments to help contain laser radiation. They are not a substitute for laser safety eyewear, which should be worn at all times when lasers are in use.

This window is suitable for use in industrial, manufacturing, medical, education, and research environments. It can be custom cut, molded, and drilled to your CAD specifications for seamless integration into machine enclosures or laser-safe viewing panels.

Each window is labeled with its optical density and wavelength protection range to ensure compliance and traceability.

Optical density and wavelength selection should be verified by your Laser Safety Officer (LSO) per ANSI Z136.

LSOs (Laser Safety Officer) need to consider working environments, viewing conditions and beam delivery systems when making assessments and determining the correct laser glasses , goggles, barriers, or windows to protect against potentially hazardous laser radiation. Do not operate lasers without correct protective equipment and training.  All laser safety glasses and goggles are made for indirect viewing only.

Common Laser Applications

ANSI Z136 Compliance Considerations

Technical guidance for laser safety window selection and hazard evaluation

ANSI logo

Class 4 Laser Safety Windows

Our Class 4 laser safety windows are designed for use in Class 4 laser controlled areas when properly selected for the laser wavelength and application. Optical density specifications are provided to support compliance with ANSI Z136 hazard evaluation requirements.

Lower Optical Density Windows

Laser Safety Industries also offers lower optical density windows for applications where a laser hazard evaluation determines that lower levels of protection are appropriate. These products are not intended as substitutes for Class 4 laser safety windows when higher optical density protection is required.

Hazard Evaluation Requirements

ANSI Z136 standards require protective windows and viewing systems to be selected as part of a documented laser hazard evaluation. Appropriate optical density requirements depend on factors such as wavelength, power, beam characteristics, viewing conditions, and intended use.
