Laser Safety Industries manufactures ANSI Z136-compliant laser safety barriers and curtains designed to help protect personnel and contain hazardous laser radiation.
Our portable and stand-alone barriers support temporary and permanent laser safety setups, while our curtains can attach to floors, walls, ceilings, and custom frames for industrial, medical, research, and manufacturing environments.
Available in standard and custom configurations, our barriers and curtains provide durable, reliable containment for laser applications including Nd:YAG, CO₂, Er:YAG, UV, visible, and fiber laser systems.
Why Laser Power Alone Does Not Determine Barrier Selection
Laser barriers and curtains are often mistakenly treated as though they are intended to serve as a target for a continuous direct beam exposure (as this is how we test and rate them). In many applications, they are instead used to contain reflected, scattered, or diffused laser radiation around a controlled work area.
In many applications, laser energy reflects, scatters, diffuses, and spreads through the work area before reaching the barrier or curtain. The expected irradiance at the containment material is often the key factor in selecting an appropriate system.
1. Laser Energy Can Diffuse Through the Work Area
Laser energy can reflect, scatter, and diffuse through the work area before reaching the containment boundary.
2. Irradiance Drops as Energy Spreads
As laser energy spreads over a larger area, the irradiance reaching the containment boundary can be much lower than the concentrated energy near the source.
3. Barriers Contain the Controlled Area
Laser barriers and curtains are often mistakenly evaluated as though they are intended to absorb a continuous direct beam exposure. In many applications, they are instead selected based on the reflected, scattered, or diffused laser energy expected to reach the containment boundary.
Barrier, Curtain, or Hardwall System?
Portable & Stand-Alone Barriers
Best for temporary work areas, mobile laser setups, research spaces, service areas, and flexible production environments.
Laser Safety Curtains
Best for flexible containment, large openings, ceiling-mounted tracks, custom frames, and areas where access needs to remain adaptable.
Modular Hardwall Systems
Best for rigid containment, modular enclosures, higher-irradiance applications, and facilities that need durable physical separation.
Window Coverings
Best for non-transparent protection over existing windows, observation areas, operating rooms, and spaces where visibility is not required.

Standards & Compliance
Our laser barrier and curtain systems are designed to meet or exceed applicable laser safety requirements for use with appropriate laser systems.
Laser Safety Industries manufactures laser safety barriers and curtains using materials that meet or exceed NFPA 701 standards and use FM compliant material FM4950.
